Basketball New Zealand is seeking applications to fill these regional roles.

If you are an experienced referee with a passion for the game and a desire to increase the quality of officiating in your area, we would love you to get involved.

As a regional referee officer, you would be directly in charge of all BBNZ registered referees in your local area in terms of courses, information and tournaments, acting as a mentor and coach to junior referees.

As part of your job description, you will be required to oversee the following in your region …

Courses/Registrations
As a senior referee, you are responsible to ensure a minimum of three BBNZ refereeing courses per season in your region. These courses may be at a range of levels and must be approved by BBNZ before holding them. All information and costs will be met by BBNZ for these courses.

Specific targets will be given to you on increases of referees in your region per season. (average 10% increase in amount of registered BBNZ referees within each area).

You will liaise with your local associations, increasing the standard of local refereeing at club level and encourage referees to gain further qualifications.

To co-ordinate and facilitate regular meetings for referees.

An evaluation process for referees.

BBNZ Tournaments
Premierships
You will work with associations in your region to ensure referees are nominated and available at all premierships in your area.

You will either be present at, or allocate the technical commissioner role at all tournaments in your region.

Where ever possible, you will allocate evaluators at BBNZ tournaments in your local area.

You will be in charge of appropriate payments for referees at these tournaments as allocated by BBNZ.

You will provide a report on all tournaments in your area discussing the referee situation, highlighting positives and negatives of each tournament. This report is due in within one week after the completion of the tournament.

Nationals
You will be required to nominate a number of referees from your area and be prepared to discuss there reasoning in open forum. Once selections have been completed for tournaments, you will work with BBNZ and the referee to ensure aspects such as training, education, accommodation and transport are secured for the referee(s).

You will be present at all national championships in your area, assuming a senior referee’s role (evaluator or technical commissioner). Within this role, you will help ensure the smooth running of the tournament relating to the allocation of referees and evaluators as required from your region, the evaluation and management of referees during the tournament and being part of the technical committee when/if required.

Every national championship, you will be required to provide courses/meetings for junior referees, more information can be found in the technical commissioner’s job description.

General
Be first contact for Referees in you region to call on for questions, advice, or information.

Build a relationship with associations in your region and provide support when they require to develop local referee bases.
