The full coaching roster for the Tall Blacks has been confirmed with an icon of the game in New Zealand joining the coaching staff.

Pero Cameron who recently became a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to basketball has been confirmed as an assistant coach for the Tall Blacks.

Cameron, 37 will assist Tall Blacks head coach, Nenad Vucinic alongside the other assistant coach Chris Tupu.

“I’m really excited with the role. It will be nice to be part of the planning and hopefully add something of value to the team. ,” says Cameron who first played for the Tall Blacks in 1992 and finished his career with the team at the World Champs in 2010. He now coaches the Wellington Saints in the Bartercard NBL.

“It’s a big year for the team. There’s a small window for games, but with the group of players we have now in the greater squad we can do well. Nenad as a player and as a coach is very astute. He’s been part of the Tall Blacks team for the last 20 years. Toops (Chris Tupu) has been around for a while too. Hopefully I can learn off them. It’s also another positive to have Dillon (Boucher) on board too. He brings a lot to the table.”

The Tall Blacks will attend the Stankovic Cup in China at the end of July and early August where they play Angola, China and Russia. They then travel to Europe for a tournament in Macedonia against the home nation, Bulgaria and Montenegro with other matches to follow in Europe.

There is also the 2011 FIBA Oceania Championships being played in September in Australia.  The Tall Blacks and Tall Ferns will play against the Boomers and Opals respectively in double-header clashes on 7 September in Melbourne, 9 September in Brisbane and 11 September in Sydney with the winners securing a place in the London Olympics next year.

Last year the Tall Blacks beat Lebanon, Canada and France in making it past pool play at the World Championships in Turkey.

Dillon Boucher is not available for the Stankovic Cup or the European tour as a result of family commitments, but will be on board with the team in an assistant coach role for the Oceania Championships.
