So far, so good for top-seeded Westlake Boys and New Plymouth Girls, as they survived Day One of the NZ Secondary Schools Championships unbeaten in Nelson.
See updated draw and results here.
Despite the absence of NZ 3×3 reps Alex Talma and Jay Gerrand, Westlake still had way too much for Onehunga HS (113-57) and Massey HS (105-62), while their closest rivals in Pool One – Fraser HS – suffered a shock loss to Burnside HS (71-79).
In the “AA” girls’ draw, New Plymouth also cruised to a pair of victories – 89-38 over Kristin School and 66-53 over Cashmere HS.
In Pool Two, Hamilton GHS sounded a warning to their rivals, crushing St Cuthbert’s College by more than 100 points (118-11) and overwhelming Marlborough Girls College 107-35.
Other 2-0 teams heading into the second day are Burnside, defending champions Rosmini College and New Plymouth BHS in the “AA” boys, and Westlake GHS, Mt Albert Grammar, Rangitoto College and Rangiora HS in the girls.
In “A” competition, Garin School boys emerged with a pair of wins, including 93-65 over Mana College, as did Te Aroha College.
