Hutt Valley Flyers have emerged as the only unbeaten team from the first round of the 2012 Women’s Basketball Championship at Nelson.

They wrapped up a perfect 5-0 weekend with a 73-35 result over Waitakere West Auckland Rangers on Sunday afternoon, led by Stella Beck’s 13 points.

Hutt, who host the next WBC round (July 20-22), also accounted for Waikato Wizards, former champions Harbour Breeze, debutants Rotorua Lady Volcanoes and understrength titleholders Otago Goldrush.

Beck was the only Flyers player to average in double-figure scoring with 11.8 points per game.

Waitakere (4-2) and Nelson Sparks (4-1) were next on the points table, while Otago could only manage one win in their four outings.

Rotorua’s Aroha Jennings was the tournament’s leading scorer, averaging 24.0 points a game.
