Hutt Valley Flyers continued their role as early giant killers at the Women’s Basketball Championship, knocking over titleholders Oceania Goldrush 51-36 on Day Two at Nelson.

In a tight encounter, Junior Tall Fern Stella Beck was the only player to score in double figures with 12 points. The victory was Hutt’s third in as many outings this weekend and came on the heels of a result over previous champions Harbour Breeze last night.

The Flayers improved that record late with a 65-52 win over Rotorua Lady Vols.

Hosts Nelson Sparks – last year’s runners-up – maintained their unbeaten record with an 82-30 romp over Kelvin Hotel Southland Pearls, and Canterbury Wildcats rebounded from their first loss - 52-57 to Waikato Wizards – to also defeat Harbour 65-55.
