Dante Exum to Miss Remainder of Season After Knee Surgery

Season-ending surgery after ongoing knee issues

The Dallas Mavericks announced that 30-year-old guard Dante Exum will have knee surgery and won’t return this season. He has continued to have problems stemming from a right knee procedure performed in the offseason, and medical staff determined a follow-up operation is necessary.

Recent form and what it means for the team

Exum dealt with injuries last year as well, appearing in just 20 games after suffering a broken hand. Even with limited minutes, he provided solid production—about 8.7 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game—while shooting efficiently (roughly 47.8% from the field and 43.4% from three). His ability to space the floor was a clear asset off the bench.

He was not on the team’s Summer League roster, and his most recent NBA appearance came in May against the Memphis Grizzlies. With Exum sidelined for the rest of the season, the Mavericks will need other guards to step up for perimeter shooting and backcourt depth. The team is expected to share updates on his recovery timeline in the weeks ahead.
