Jokic: Nuggets need to be a lot better if they want to achieve something big

Jokic’s huge night and a tough loss

Nikola Jokic put up monster numbers in Denver’s 128–123 loss to Sacramento, finishing with 44 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists while committing only two turnovers. He shot 16-of-28 from the floor, hit three of six from deep and went 9-of-10 from the free-throw line.

Despite Jokic’s production, the Kings rallied in the second half and made life difficult for the Nuggets, especially inside. Denver missed some close shots early, turned the ball over at key moments and often looked a step slow on defense.

Defensive struggles and what comes next

Jokic pointed to Sacramento’s attack in the paint and a change in tempo after halftime as the main issues. With the Kings pushing inside and increasing the pace, Denver had trouble rotating and providing help defense, which opened up opportunities for the visitors.

Even with a 12–4 record, Jokic doesn’t think it reflects how good the team really is. He said they need to improve across the board if they want to accomplish big goals this season. The Nuggets will look to bounce back in their next game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday.
