Steven Adams Season Over After Ankle Surgery
Season-ending surgery
Veteran center Steven Adams has undergone ankle surgery and will miss the rest of the season. The injury occurred on January 18 when he slid over to help defend a drive and landed awkwardly, immediately grabbing his left ankle. After evaluation, the team decided on surgery to address the injury and rule him out for the remainder of the year.
What this means for the Rockets
Adams was averaging about 5.8 points and 8.6 rebounds in roughly 22.8 minutes per game. His physical play has been an important part of Houston’s league-leading rebounding effort, with the team hauling in around 49 boards per contest.
The Rockets sit fourth in the Western Conference with a 28-16 record. With Adams sidelined, Houston will need to reshuffle its frontcourt rotation and lean on other bigs and role players to keep the team competitive as they head into their next matchup against the San Antonio Spurs.
