Luka Magic in Slovenia: Doncic Hosts Lakers’ Offseason Retreat
Luka Doncic is planning an early summer get-together for the Los Angeles Lakers — a four-day minicamp in Slovenia this August, well before training camp opens. The camp is intended to mix on-court work with some lighter activities and a chance for the roster to bond overseas.
What the minicamp will include
According to reports, the agenda will feature basketball workouts alongside golf, sightseeing around Ljubljana, and other team-building events. It’s not just practice time — the schedule looks set to combine drills and conditioning with relaxed activities that help teammates connect off the court.
This isn’t Doncic’s first time organizing something like this: in October 2025 he put together and paid for a team-building day at the Porsche Experience Center in Southern California, showing he’s comfortable taking the lead on off-court bonding.
Why it matters for the Lakers
The gathering comes as the Lakers look to build chemistry after several offseason changes. The club added big pieces and depth through trades and signings, including Walker Kessler in a sign-and-trade and Jaden Hardy in a move that involved a trade sending Deandre Ayton elsewhere. Austin Reaves also agreed to a new four-year contract, and the offseason brought in players such as Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton, Kevon Looney, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Ziaire Williams and Matisse Thybulle.
A short, focused minicamp gives newcomers a chance to get comfortable with Luka and coach JJ Redick’s system, fast-track chemistry, and iron out rotations before the longer grind of the season begins.
