Maciej Lampe: Small chance he could join Real Madrid’s coaching staff

From a teenage debut to excitement in Belgrade

Former Polish forward Maciej Lampe said there’s a slim possibility he could end up on Real Madrid’s coaching bench. He reflected on a long playing career that began at Real Madrid just before he turned 16, included several seasons in the NBA, and then continued back in Europe with stints at teams such as Himki, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Unics Kazan, Baskonia, Barcelona and Besiktas.

Lampe also talked about how much he’s looking forward to the Belgrade derby. He admitted that big games usually don’t faze him, but this one has him genuinely excited. He’s been trying to secure tickets for weeks and plans to bring a content-creating friend along. For him, performing in front of Serbian crowds always feels special.

Thinking about coaching — maybe back where it all started

Lampe said he’s keen to move into coaching and hasn’t ruled out doing that at Real Madrid someday. He explained that he spoke with Sergio Scariolo, who coached him when he made his debut, and that the coach encouraged him to gain experience first—either as an assistant or a head coach elsewhere—so he can build his credentials.

He described the idea as a real possibility but not a done deal, noting that his current plan is to work hard, learn the ropes in a coaching role, and prove himself so that returning to Real Madrid could be an option down the line. Lampe also mentioned needing to reset after a difficult period in his life and that coaching feels like the right next step.

In short, Lampe is excited for the derby and quietly plotting a coaching path that might, with time and effort, lead him back to the club where he first made his name.
