Departure confirmed

Trey Lyles has announced that he will not be returning to Real Madrid next season after spending one year with the club. He shared the news on social media, saying that Madrid was a great experience but that he felt it was time to move on.

Season recap and what’s next

Lyles enjoyed a strong campaign in Europe. In the EuroLeague he featured in 42 games, averaging 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. In Spain’s Liga Endesa he played 28 games and posted averages of 11.7 points, 5 rebounds and 1.8 assists.

At 30 years old, Real Madrid was Lyles’ first stop outside the NBA. Before heading to Europe he spent his entire professional career in the NBA with stints at the Sacramento Kings, Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets and Utah Jazz. He was the 12th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft after a college career at Kentucky.

Several destinations have been mentioned as possibilities for his next move, including clubs in Europe and the option of a return to the NBA. Expect more clarity on his next team in the coming weeks as the summer transfer period progresses.
