Nuggets Reduce Peyton Watson Trade Price as Multiple Teams Circle

Nuggets soften stance as sign-and-trade talks pick up

The Denver Nuggets have reportedly lowered what they originally wanted in a potential sign-and-trade for Peyton Watson. Early in the offseason the team was asking for a hefty package—modeled after a recent blockbuster center deal that included multiple first-round picks and pick swaps—but sources now say Denver’s price has come down. The new ask appears to be a high-quality player plus a first-round pick, rather than the multi-pick haul first discussed.

Watson is still a restricted free agent, which means Denver can match any offer sheet he signs with another club. A sign-and-trade would let Watson move on while ensuring the Nuggets get assets back. Denver has reportedly already put a qualifying offer on the table worth roughly $70 million, but the two sides haven’t reached an agreement yet. Expect movement — or more talks — as training camp approaches.

Why teams are interested and what’s next

Watson’s stock rose after a strong 2025–26 season. At 6-foot-8 he showed the kind of shooting, size and defensive versatility teams covet, finishing with career highs and efficient shooting splits. That combination is why multiple teams are keeping an eye on him as a possible addition via sign-and-trade.

Several clubs reportedly exploring fits include the Bucks, Clippers and Hawks. The Lakers were mentioned at one point, but they eventually used their draft assets elsewhere and are no longer in the running. Negotiations could stretch closer to training camp — as happened with other restricted cases last year — so Watson’s landing spot might not be settled for a while. For now, the choice is simple for Denver: match an offer and keep a young rotation piece, or accept a reduced return and let him go.
