Sandro Mamukelashvili reflects on Luka Dončić’s Lakers minicamp in Slovenia
Minicamp highlights
Sandro Mamukelashvili had plenty of praise for the minicamp Luka Dončić hosted in Slovenia this summer. He said the whole trip was well planned and helped the new group of players bond quickly. Ljubljana left a good impression, and the mix of on-court work and off-court activities made the time together feel productive and relaxed.
The sessions weren’t just about drills. The team got out of the gym to visit spots around the country, including a trip to Lake Bled, some fishing and a round of golf, plus meals at Dončić’s favorite places. There were touches like a chartered flight for the group and small Slovenian-themed gifts, all meant to build chemistry ahead of the official start of the season.
Teammate Jarred Vanderbilt also enjoyed the visit and said he’d happily go back, even joking about looking into getting a Slovenian passport after the trip.
Where Mamukelashvili stands now
Mamukelashvili joined the Lakers on a four-year, $52 million deal this summer after a breakout year with the Toronto Raptors. He posted career highs and played a key role in helping Toronto win 46 games and push their first-round playoff series to seven games.
Before Toronto, he spent time with the Milwaukee Bucks and then the San Antonio Spurs, steadily building his game. The minicamp offered a chance to get comfortable with new teammates and start forming the on-court relationships that will matter once training camp opens.
