Luka Doncic returning to Los Angeles on September 20 after longest career break
Extended break and individual training
Luka Doncic has been spending most of the summer in Slovenia and is expected to head back to Los Angeles on September 20. He’s enjoying what will be the longest break of his professional career — roughly 203 days between seasons — and used the time to recharge and prepare carefully for the year ahead.
While in Ljubljana he worked one-on-one with trainer Anze Macek, gradually increasing his workload as he moved closer to full basketball activities. Reports say he’s around 105 kilograms now, near his preferred playing weight even before preseason officially starts.
This summer he also passed on playing for the Slovenian national team, prioritizing recovery, individual training and time with his two daughters.
Slovenia minicamp and team bonding
Doncic put together a private offseason minicamp in Slovenia that mixed drills with team-building. The idea was to get some basketball work done while helping players build chemistry ahead of the regular preparations.
Besides on-court sessions, the group did a number of off-court activities — trips to Lake Bled, fishing, rounds of golf and shared meals at some of Doncic’s favorite spots. He reportedly organized travel for a large group of teammates and even prepared Slovenian-themed gifts as a personal touch.
Looking ahead, the team has media day scheduled for September 28, with training camp set to begin the next day. Doncic’s late return means he’ll jump into the official preseason routine after a longer-than-usual break, hopefully refreshed and ready to go.
