Monaco has responded after being excluded from LNB Pro A for the 2026–27 season following a failure to file required paperwork on time. The FFBB Appeals Chamber confirmed the club would not be registered for the upcoming professional season, leaving Monaco without a pro licence and excluded from the top two French divisions.
Takeover talks accelerate
The club says discussions with a group led by former NBA All-Star Jamal Mashburn never stopped and have in fact stepped up since the decision. Monaco describes the proposed sporting and financial plan as ambitious and says the parties involved have presented what appears to be serious financial backing.
Monaco adds that the project is now closer than ever to a full agreement, but the failure to complete the documentation before the deadline prevented the recapitalization and takeover from being formalised in time.

Monaco plans to appeal through a conciliation process at the French National Olympic and Sports Committee. The club has until August 18 at 11:59 p.m. to submit the grounds for that appeal, but everyone involved is treating August 14 as the internal target to finalise an agreement before the formal CNOSF filing. The club has said it will remain quiet until there is news to share.
The situation has left other French teams waiting to learn which division they will compete in next season. Monaco stresses it earned its place in the top division and in European competition through on-court results and believes a credible plan and sufficient resources would support a request for reinstatement.
Last season was memorable for Monaco, which completed a domestic quadruple before financial difficulties emerged. The Principality previously provided a substantial short-term loan to help cover player salaries during that period. With the club’s future unresolved, reports suggest other clubs are exploring the opportunity to take Monaco’s place in European tournaments if the situation isn’t resolved.
