Last night the Boston Celtics erupted for 53 points in the first quarter and rolled to a 147-129 victory over the Miami Heat. That opening salvo put them just two points shy of the NBA single-quarter record of 55, set by the Golden State Warriors in April 2023. Miami also reached 53 points in a first quarter earlier this season against Charlotte.

The 147 points tied as the Celtics’ second-highest scoring night on the road, and it marked the most points the Heat have ever given up at home.

Jaylen Brown was the driving force for Boston, pouring in 43 points and handing out 7 assists. Jayson Tatum added 25 points, while Sam Hauser contributed 23 off the bench. For Miami, Bam Adebayo posted a 29-point, 10-rebound double-double in a losing effort.

Boston sits second in the Eastern Conference with a 51-25 record and will head to Milwaukee for their next game against the Bucks.
