Mavericks stand firm on Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving is expected to be the focal point for the Dallas Mavericks next season after the team reportedly turned down several trade inquiries, according to NBA insider Evan Sidery. Multiple teams checked in over the summer, but the Mavericks rejected every proposal, signaling they don’t intend to move their star guard.

Irving, a nine-time All-Star, signed a three-year, $119 million contract last year. Despite missing almost all of the previous season recovering from ACL surgery, Dallas remains committed to building around him.

Building around Irving and the young core

New head coach Dusty May plans to shape the offense around Irving and rookie Cooper Flagg, pairing Kyrie’s scoring and playmaking with Flagg’s length, athleticism and basketball instincts. The front office believes that combination gives the Mavericks a real chance to compete right away.

The team has also added complementary pieces this offseason, including forward Tarik Biberovic, as they work to surround their core with role players and depth. For now, the message from Dallas is straightforward: Kyrie stays, and the franchise will give him every opportunity to lead them back into contention.
