Panathinaikos? Not this time — Guerschon Yabusele heads to the Bulls

The trade and what happened

Guarding the rumor mill for a few days, Guerschon Yabusele has been moved from the New York Knicks to the Chicago Bulls in a straight swap that sends Dalen Terry the other way. The move ends speculation about a European return that had been circulating in recent reports.

Why he stayed in the NBA and what this means

Yabusele had reportedly attracted interest from overseas, but he’s made it clear he wants to remain in the NBA for the foreseeable future — partly to secure long-term benefits like retirement eligibility and full health coverage for his family. That goal means he’s aiming to log several more seasons in the league.

After a productive stint with the Philadelphia 76ers, Yabusele arrived in New York expecting a bigger role, but he struggled to settle into the Knicks’ rotation. Heading to Chicago, though, he could find more minutes. With Nikola Vucevic no longer anchoring their frontcourt, the Bulls have openings inside that could translate into a larger role for the French forward.

For the Knicks this trade brings a different piece in Dalen Terry, while Chicago adds a versatile forward who brings size and athleticism. For Yabusele, it’s a fresh chance to re-establish himself and continue building toward the service time he’s targeting in the NBA.
