Partizan signs NBA veteran Cameron Payne until end of season

Signing and arrival

After Partizan confirmed Joan Penarroya as head coach, the club has also completed the signing of veteran guard Cameron Payne. The 31-year-old arrived in Belgrade and is expected to join team training immediately after signing a contract that runs until the end of the season.

Payne’s move had been hinted at beforehand — he was photographed in the city and spoke briefly about joining the team. This will be his first club in Europe; he previously played in China for the Shanxi Loongs during the 2019–20 season.

Experience and role

Payne brings extensive NBA experience and should add scoring and playmaking to Partizan’s backcourt. He was the 14th pick in the 2015 NBA Draft and has since had stints with several NBA teams, most recently the New York Knicks. His career also includes time with the Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls and Oklahoma City Thunder.

Expect him to compete for minutes right away and to provide veteran leadership and shooting. His arrival gives the team another playmaker who can help improve the offense as Partizan pushes through the rest of the season.
