Paul Pierce Compares Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to Michael Jordan

Pierce on Shai: “A well-oiled machine”

Former Celtics star Paul Pierce appeared on a podcast and offered high praise for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, calling him nearly unstoppable. Pierce said you can see a rare level of focus and hunger in Shai, comparing his relentlessness to Michael Jordan and describing him as a “well-oiled machine.” He added that while legends like Kobe, LeBron and Kevin Durant have monster nights, Shai’s consistency in putting up 30-point games is something special.

SGA’s season and the Thunder’s hot start

So far this year Shai has been sensational. Over 21 games he’s averaging about 32.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game, while shooting approximately 54.5% from the field and 41.1% from three. His performance has pushed the Oklahoma City Thunder to a dominant start, sitting atop the Western Conference with a 20–1 record.

With that kind of production and efficiency, Shai has become a central figure in MVP conversations and a major reason the Thunder are being taken seriously as contenders. If he keeps this pace, opposing teams will need to find new ways to try and slow him down.
