Cleveland Cavaliers vs Portland Trail Blazers – Preview & Prediction (Dec. 03, 2025)
Game Preview
The Cavaliers came into this season with high expectations but have been a bit up-and-down. On paper they still look like one of the stronger teams in the East, but consistency has been an issue — in their last seven games they’ve only collected three wins. That stretch included a tough loss to Boston in a 115–117 nail-biter, but they snapped a mini skid with a big road win over the Pacers, 135–119. Donovan Mitchell led the way in that game with a monster scoring night (43 points, plus contributions on the glass and playmaking), and one teammate posted a 27-and-11 double-double. If Cleveland can keep that offensive rhythm and tighten up the lapses, they should be in good shape at home.
Portland started the year surprisingly well, winning four of their first six games despite a difficult slate. Since then their form has tailed off, partly because of injuries and partly because their aggression and defensive intensity slipped. Their defense has struggled relative to the rest of the league, and recent results reflect that downturn: in their last 10 games they’ve only beaten two top opponents. They’ve dropped three straight coming into this matchup, including a close 121–118 loss where they made a strong comeback but couldn’t finish it off. Overall, the Blazers still have upside, but recent inconsistency and defensive problems are real concerns.
Prediction & Key Availability
Injury and availability notes: for the Cavaliers, Max Strus, Larry Nance, Sam Merrill and Jarrett Allen are set to miss the game, while Lonzo Ball is listed as questionable. For the Trail Blazers, Damian Lillard, Scoot Henderson, Matisse Thybulle and Blake Wesley are out, with Jrue Holiday listed as questionable.
With home-court advantage and a healthier rotation of scorers, Cleveland should be able to control the matchup. This looks like a spot where the Cavs can cover a reasonable spread.
