(VIDEO) Thousands of Baskonia fans flood the streets to celebrate Copa del Rey
Baskonia’s dramatic Copa del Rey win
Last weekend Baskonia captured the Copa del Rey after a thrilling run that included knocking out Barcelona in the semi-finals and then coming from behind to beat Real Madrid in the final. The team claimed the first trophy of the season thanks to a tense finish and the hot shooting of guard Markus Howard.
It was a comeback victory that had everyone on the edge of their seats, and the players made it clear how much the trophy meant — both for the club and for the supporters who followed them all the way.
Huge home celebration in Vitoria
Back in Vitoria, thousands of fans lined the streets to welcome the squad. Team captain Tadas Sedekerskis and Markus Howard spoke to the crowd, dedicating the win to the fans and thanking them for their support throughout the campaign. The captain reminded everyone that the season isn’t over yet, but that for one night the city could celebrate being Copa champions.
Head coach Paolo Galbiati was visibly ecstatic and even grabbed the microphone at one point to share the moment with the crowd. The team also took part in a traditional aurresku dance and laid flowers at the statue of the city’s patroness as a gesture of gratitude and respect.
The reception was an energetic, emotional display of local pride — a reminder of how much a trophy like this can unite a club and its supporters heading into the rest of the season.
