Tenerife dominate Valencia 89-71 in Endesa League

Strong defense powers Tenerife to victory

Tenerife cruised to an 89-71 home win over Valencia in the 22nd round of the Endesa League. Tenerife were without new signing Patty Mills, while Valencia missed Darius Thompson, Cameron Taylor and Yankuba Sima.

Both teams started well, trading baskets early on, but Tenerife flipped a switch in the second quarter. Their defense clamped down and they held Valencia to just eight points in that period, taking control of the game and rarely letting the visitors get within 10 points for the rest of the match. Valencia also struggled from three-point range and couldn’t find a consistent offensive rhythm.

Standout performers for Tenerife included Thomas Scrubb (16 points, 6 rebounds), Wesley Van Beck (14) and Rokas Giedraitis (12). Valencia’s top scorers were Jaime Pradilla with 17 points and Josep Puerto with 10.

Standings and other results

The win keeps Tenerife in eighth place at 13-9. Their next match will be in the FIBA Champions League, away to Trieste. Valencia remain second in the table at 16-6 and will host Barcelona in their next EuroLeague outing.

Other Endesa League results from the day: Unicaja 112, Zaragoza 89; Murcia 87, Gran Canaria 76.

It was a confident, well-rounded performance from Tenerife — especially on defense — that proved decisive.
