Yurtseven on NBA debut and the difference between NBA and European play

Warriors debut and recent journey

Omer Yurtseven made his first appearance for the Golden State Warriors in a road loss to the New York Knicks. He had left Panathinaikos at the end of February and spent some time in the G League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers before signing a 10-day contract with Golden State on March 15. In his debut he played 13 minutes, collected four rebounds, had one turnover and missed his three field-goal attempts.

Why the NBA feels different

Speaking after the game, Yurtseven said the NBA feels more open and faster than European competition. He pointed out that the wider court and rules like the defensive three-second violation stretch defenses out more, creating space in the paint and opening passing lanes and corner looks. That spacing, he feels, makes it easier to read defenses and create advantages.

By contrast, he described European games as tighter and more compressed. With a closer three-point line and different defensive rules, defenders can collapse and recover quickly, which changes how offenses operate and makes spacing less generous than in the NBA.

Yurtseven will have another chance to build on his first outing when the Warriors visit the Washington Wizards the following night.
