Jeff Dowtin Jr. joins Napoli after EuroLeague debut with Maccabi Tel Aviv
Dowtin starts a new chapter in Italy
Jeff Dowtin Jr. is heading to Napoli after spending last season with Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he made his EuroLeague debut. The 29-year-old guard, born in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, stands 191 cm and brings a mix of speed, defense and playmaking to his new club.
Last season was his first outside the United States. In the EuroLeague he featured in 19 games, averaging 8.1 points, 2.4 assists and 1.1 rebounds. In the domestic Israeli league he appeared in 10 games and posted 9.6 points, 4.3 assists and 2.6 rebounds per outing. Those numbers, combined with his on-court energy, helped him carve out a steady role.
Before moving to Europe, Dowtin spent his whole professional career in the U.S., bouncing around the NBA and its development league. He had stints with several NBA teams and played for multiple G League squads, which helped him develop into a flexible guard who can contribute on both ends.
What he brings to Napoli’s project
Napoli have been busy reshaping their roster and Dowtin is another piece in that effort. He joins a group that already includes experienced and versatile names such as John Petrucelli, Zac Seljaas, Marco Spissu, Andrej Jakimovski, Assane Sankare and Jackson Thomas. The club has been adding shooting, size and athleticism ahead of the new campaign.
Dowtin gives Napoli a guard with high-level experience from both the NBA system and the EuroLeague. His athleticism and defensive instincts should help the team’s rotation, while his playmaking adds another ball-handling option. Napoli will be hoping this refreshed roster helps them push up the standings and compete with the more ambitious sides in Italian basketball.
