Anthony Edwards: Why He’s Playing Better on the Road
Edwards’ surprising home/away split
Anthony Edwards is widely regarded as one of the league’s top young stars, but this season there’s a clear divide in how he performs at home versus on the road. On the road he’s been electric, averaging 32.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.1 made three-pointers per game while shooting about 54% from the field and 46% from deep.
Back in Minnesota, those numbers dip: he’s averaging roughly 26.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.4 three-pointers per game, with shooting splits near 47% from the floor and 33% from downtown. It’s an unusual split — most players don’t show such a stark difference — and it’s worth watching whether this trend holds over the long run or evens out as the season progresses.
Where the Timberwolves stand
The Timberwolves are still rolling as a team despite the home/away quirks. Since December 1 they’re among the small group of clubs with double-digit wins over that stretch, sitting alongside teams like the Celtics and Spurs. Minnesota’s overall record is 23–13 and they currently occupy a spot in the upper half of the Western Conference.
The Western standings are tight, and small differences in games played have kept teams bunched together. Minnesota is within striking distance of the top seeds, and a short hot streak from Edwards or the supporting cast could quickly move them up the ladder.
