Cooper Flagg breaks LeBron James’ record in loss to Jazz

Game recap

Cooper Flagg put on a show and pushed the Mavericks into overtime against the Utah Jazz, but Dallas couldn’t close it out. The Mavericks were outscored 11–4 in the extra period, handing the Jazz the win despite Flagg’s huge night.

Flagg’s performance and what it means

Flagg finished with 42 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 blocks — the most points ever scored in a single game by an 18-year-old in NBA history. That effort also ties him with Kevin Durant and Anthony Edwards for the fourth-highest scoring performance by a teenager in the league.

On the other side, Lauri Markkanen paced the Jazz with a strong outing of his own, finishing with 33 points and 16 rebounds. Even with Flagg’s breakout showing, Dallas will take away some positives about his potential while also knowing they need cleaner execution in crunch time.
