Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ties Oscar Robertson with 79th straight 20-point game
Thunder roll to 7–0 with convincing win
Oklahoma City kept its perfect start to the season, cruising to a 137–106 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans at the Paycom Center. The Pelicans have struggled early and dropped their sixth straight game, never really threatening in this one.
Gilgeous-Alexander’s streak and the supporting cast
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander once again looked like an MVP candidate. He finished with 30 points, 2 rebounds and 7 assists, posting his third straight 30-point outing and extending a remarkable run of consistency: 79 consecutive games with at least 20 points, which ties Oscar Robertson for third-most all time. Only Wilt Chamberlain’s 92- and 126-game streaks sit ahead of him.
Shai wasn’t prolific from deep (1-of-5) but was strong inside (8-of-14) and was flawless from the line, hitting all 13 of his free throws. The Thunder built the offense around his rhythm and got solid contributions from Andrew Wiggins (15 points), Johannes Voigtmann (14), Joe (14) and Derrick Wallace (13).
For New Orleans, Zion Williamson led the team with 20 points but struggled at the line, missing six of 12 free throws. Those misses made it harder for the Pelicans to keep pace with the Thunder’s balanced attack.
This win keeps Oklahoma City unbeaten and underlines how reliable Gilgeous-Alexander has been night after night. If he keeps playing at this level, he’ll remain a major storyline as the season unfolds.
