Wizards’ Center Troubles Deepen After Loss to Pistons
Opposing centers are having big nights
Washington fell 117–95 at home to Detroit, where Jalen Duren put up a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds. That game continued a worrying trend: opposing centers have repeatedly given the Wizards fits inside.
Across the last five games the visiting big men have all hit double figures, with a few putting up monster lines. Notable performances include Bam Adebayo (83 points, 9 rebounds), Kristaps Porzingis (30 points, 5 rebounds), Neemias Queta (24 points, 10 rebounds), Wendell Carter Jr. (19 points, 11 rebounds), and Duren’s double-double in Detroit.
Rotation issues and what’s next
The Wizards’ current center group — Alexandre Sarr, Tristan Vukcevic and Justin Champagnie — has struggled to handle interior scoring and rebounding. Injuries have thinned the position, and the team often looks undersized or outmatched defensively in the paint.
There have been positives in small doses: Tristan Vukcevic had one of his better games of the season, and Bogdan Bogdanovic appears to be rediscovering his rhythm. Paul Reed also contributed 17 points, four rebounds and a couple of blocks in the recent matchup.
For now, the center spot remains a major question mark. Until the Wizards get healthier, adjust their matchups or add depth, opposing bigs are likely to keep exploiting the interior. Improvements in rim protection, smarter rotations and possible roster reinforcements will be necessary to turn this around.
