Fenerbahçe sign Ignas Sargiunas on 2+1 deal

Sargiunas arrives in Istanbul

Fenerbahçe have added 26-year-old Lithuanian guard Ignas Sargiunas on a 2+1 year contract, another move in an already busy transfer window. He arrives from Rytas after enjoying the most successful season of his career.

With Rytas, Sargiunas played a major role as the team captured the 2025/26 FIBA Champions League. Across 16 games in that competition he averaged 11.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists, proving to be one of the most dependable backcourt options on the roster. Earlier in his career he came through the Žalgiris youth system and had stints with Neptūnas, Medi Bayreuth and Prienai.

He also drew widespread attention with a jaw-dropping international moment for Lithuania, scoring nine points in the final nine seconds by draining three straight three-pointers to complete a dramatic comeback. That performance helped cement his reputation as a clutch shooter.

Offseason moves and roster outlook

Sargiunas is the club’s sixth signing of the offseason, joining a series of additions that have bolstered the backcourt and wing positions. New arrivals this summer include Shane Larkin, Shavon Shields, Trent Forrest and Braxton Key, and Sertac Sanli has returned to the squad. At the same time, Fenerbahçe extended deals for Nicolo Melli, Chris Silva and Talen Horton-Tucker to keep the core of last season’s title-winning group intact.

The roster has also seen several departures as the team reshapes for the new campaign, including players who have moved on to other clubs or retired. Bringing in an experienced European guard like Sargiunas gives Fenerbahçe extra shooting and depth as they prepare to defend their EuroLeague crown next season.
