Gran Canaria relegated to Segunda after heavy loss to Valencia

Valencia dominated the season finale

Valencia closed out the regular season with a 105–81 win over Gran Canaria, a result that never really felt in doubt. From the opening tip the visitors trailed and struggled to get stops, while Valencia pushed the pace and used its rhythm to build an early cushion.

The hosts led by double digits early and extended their advantage to as many as 21 points by halftime. Valencia kept control throughout the second half and never allowed Gran Canaria a clear way back into the game. Omari Moore paced Valencia with 21 points and Brancou Badio added 18.

End of an era for Gran Canaria

The defeat confirmed Gran Canaria’s relegation from Spain’s top flight for the first time since 1995. It caps a season that unraveled as it went on: the club dismissed head coach Jaka Lakovic midseason and also endured a disappointing run in the FIBA Champions League.

On the scoreboard for Gran Canaria, Nicolas Brussino finished with 16 points and Chimezie Metu contributed 15, but those efforts weren’t enough to turn the tide. The club now faces a difficult offseason as it prepares for life in the Segunda and looks to rebuild.
